Golden Globes 2014 – Best Dresses!

It’s one of my favorite times of the year – Awards Season!! When all the style hawks pay way more attention to the red carpet finery than the awards bestowed on the stars and then argue about who shut it down and who should have stayed home. The Golden Globes 2014 are the first major show of the year with the SAG Awards coming next week and the Oscars in February. So excited!

Golden Globes 2014 – Best Dressed

I’ll start with my favorite new style star, Lupita Nyong’o. I wrote about her great style a few weeks ago in my Celebrity Style Watch Series. She is regal and radiant in this vibrant dress/cape by Ralph Lauren.

My next favorite for the evening is Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad. The structure, the sparkle, the fit! Flawless!

Amy Adams in Valentino. Love the down-to-her-navel neckline and the color blocking. So soft and romantic. Yummy!

Margot Robbie rocked another navel-grazing stunner. The jeweled dress is Gucci and the jade shoes playing a game of peek-a-boo are Christian Louboutin.

Amber Heard in Versace. This gorgeous dress had such great movement on the carpet. Still photos simply don’t do it justice. Love the one-shoulder and the ruching and the deep blue.

Elisabeth Moss turned up in this art deco dazzler by J Mendel. I would have gone with a different shoe, no ankle strap, but the dress is something special.

Loved Allison Williams in this black and white column by Alexander McQueen. It’s both classic and fresh.

It’s no easy feat to pull off a shimmery column dress with a baby on board but Olivia Wilde was perfectly proportioned in green by Gucci.

That’s it for my favorites of the night. I have to say that this year’s Golden Globes award show was more entertaining than the red carpet. There were a few stand-out dresses but a lot of celebs played it pretty safe and some just got it all the way wrong. Looking at you Drew Barrymore and Paula Patton.

Next up, I’m taking a look at the men of the Golden Globes 2014 Red Carpet.

Who was your favorite of the night? Did I miss anyone who was simply spectacular? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I thought that Lupita Nyong'o was the best dressed of the night. I think her outfit was avant garde and the colour and cut of the dress suited her perfectly. I also liked Emma Watson's dress as it was so unusual and daring. I think her confidence really pulls that outfit together as it could have been a big miss.

    1. Emma was definitely daring and I love that she took a risk. It didn't really work for me though for the GG carpet. At a premiere, an awards show after party, yes. Also I think a different shoe choice would have helped the overall look. Something more delicate would have given it a more GG feel.

  2. Amber Heard's dress was phenomenal and something I would totally do!!
But I loved Sandra Bullock's dress.. I know a lot of people disagree but it was beautiful with the peek – a- boo pink!

    1. Uh, Sandra's dress is high on my 'What Were You Thinking' list. Right up there with that unfortunate choice by Paula Patton. SM(entire)H. LOL! Love her though!

  3. I love the dresses that you post but the Golden Globes fashion didn't blow me away this year for some reason…

    1. I agree, overall there weren't that many wowzer moments. Lots of safe choices which leaves little room to blow everyone away.

  4. I really love Allison Williams dress. It's classic. But Lupita gorgeous red!

  5. Moss looks great, that dress fits her and her personality so well
