Lust List November: Cozy Home Edition
It’s finally cozy girl season! And this year, in particular, I’m looking for every drop of cozy I can find because whew, chile! The events of the day have called for introspection, introversion, and an introduction to the ultra cozy home because we (and our loved ones) truly deserve it!
If you know me, you know I’m a homebody on a good day, so making sure I have all the creature comforts at my fingertips is a high priority. And with the stressors of the day, both new and old, we can all benefit from adding a few extra touches of cozy comfort to our homes.
So without further ado, here are my five tips for creating a cozy home!
How To Create A Cozy Home
Creating a cozy home can be simple and easy. No need to do a major overhaul or take on a whole new design project. Sometimes, little tweaks like tidying, rearranging furniture, or switching out light bulbs can make for a much cozier space and it doesn’t take much effort at all.
Now if you want to do a major overhaul, I won’t stop you but I’m aiming for somewhere in the middle.
1. Clear the Clutter
First things first. This is the least sexy part of of the cozy home plan but I promise it will make everything better. Clean, uncluttered surfaces give the eye someplace to rest and in the end, that’s what cozy is all about. Rest.
Hang what needs to hang and put everything you possible can into a drawer. Not enough storage space? Consider getting a few beautiful storage boxes that can double as decor. Two birds, one stone. If those boxes also add texture to your space, that’s a triple victory.
I love these Shagreen leather boxes for small, tabletop storage and these rattan cubby boxes for larger items.
Keeping your clutter at bay is easy with these Shagreen Leather Boxes for small, tabletop storage. Organize stray pens, notepads, and hair ties for easy reach and each time you run your fingers across the pebbled surface, you’ll get a tiny tactile thrill!
2. A Touch of Texture
In ways both big (rugs, wall hangings) and small (throws, pillow shams) texture is transformative. A soft, chenille rug underfoot or a faux fur throw draped across your shoulders can make for the ultimate cozy experience. Personally, I’m also a fan of velvet and cashmere, so they will always be in the mix.
Cozy Earth has a fabulous collection of faux fur throws in various sizes and colors, including this season’s it color: burgundy. I think over-sized is always better so go for the Cuddle Blanket in burgundy or walnut. Both are now on sale for 37% off!
3. For the Love of Layering
You know how layering adds a little oomph to your outfit? Well it can do the same for your cozy home decor. Try adding a smaller throw rug over your larger area rug. Curate a collection of throws in different weights, textures, and colors and toss them on your sofa or favorite comfy arm chair.
Go all out by layering your shelves and bookcases too. Experiment with adding a mirror or framed art behind your favorite sculpture or decorative bowl. You’ll love the depth you create with that small tweak.
Cozy Home Essentials
You probably know what your home needs to feel the most cozy for you but if you’re not sure, this list is a great place to start!
- THROW: Bubble Cuddle Blanket by Cozy Earth
- ROBE: Aarti Hooded Robe by UGG
- RUG: Soft Shaggy Rug by Target
- STORAGE: Artisan Rattan Boxes by Container Store
- LAMP: Pawnee Table Lamp by Anthropologie
- SOUND BAR: Beam by Sonos
4. Bring Nature Indoors
Bring the outside in by adding organic touches throughout your home. Plants, fresh cut flowers, wood, or feathers. Anything organic that tickles your fancy will do. Surrounding yourself with things found in nature will help regulate your nervous system and make it easier for you to relax.
5. Set the Mood With Lighting
Last but certainly not least, is lighting. Lighting can make or break a space and getting it right is super simple. My golden rule is human-level lighting reigns supreme. That means table lamps, floor lamps, and candles. Every now and then I also enjoy a low, floor light that can add an element of drama to any space.
What we never, ever, never do is use overhead lighting. Overhead lighting is the devil and I will die on this hill.
And, your lights should be warm. None of those weird, energy-efficient coil bulbs or any bulb that approximates that harsh, flat, white light. We don’t want it, throw them away.
Find a soft white bulb or bulbs that let you choose the temperature and are dimmer compatible. You can put each lamp on a separate dimmer for granular control over each light source.
6. Extra Cozy Home Tip: Create A Soundscape
No cozy home creation is complete without paying a bit of attention to what your home sounds like. Once you’ve followed all the steps above, you’ll already have the perfect, soft space to add a layer of sound. What does that mean? Well, you know how a room with soft, plush carpet and tapestries on the wall feels as compared to one with hardwood floors and bare shelves? Yeah, like that.
Since we’ve added different textures and layers to soften up the room, we can now layer some sound for the ultimate cozy experience. Whether you want to add music or nature sounds, you’ll need a good sound system to deliver warm, rich sound. (And no, your earbuds will not suffice. You want the sound to be in the room, not just in your head.)
I’m a huge fan of the Sonos sound system for delivering warm, rich sound. I talk about it often and recommend it to everyone I know. But if Sonos is not your jam, Bose makes some excellent speakers and sound systems for home. I always say start with a sound bar for your TV because not only will it make your TV watching experience better, but you can also play music w/o the TV being on. Then you can add additional speakers as you go for a fuller, total home system.
That’s it for my cozy home curation! If you have more tips, please share them in the comments. Until next time, stay secure, Cozy Girl!

I've been blasting my space heater all week. I know it's not economical, but between the feel of the heat and the white noise it makes, it's one of my all time favorite parts of winter. I could benefit from those throws too.
My space heater has been going for awhile as well. I'm not at all interested in being cold! LOL
